During break I had a man to man conversation with my grandfather of how college was going so far. I had a lot of information to notify him of. I talked about how classes were going, the people I've met and what things I'm doing outside of class, such as the K.U.R.E. radio station, which I am currently under training for.
My decision to not participate in a sport here at Iowa State University was mainly because I wanted to focus on school. Thinking ahead I figured out that 4 years from now I will most likely not be running track after college. But I did know that I was going to do something with advertising later on in my professional career.
I was telling my grandpa that the amount of information I know about advertising thus far is startling. I know a lot more information than the average person who isn't studying advertising does. Four years from now I see myself as a practical expert in my own professional field of work. I know that may seem silly or exaggerated but that just gives me a goal to achieve after college. I want to be an expert in a way in my field of work when I graduate college. This will get me ahead of the pack and give me a good chance to get an internship, and a job.
I have also learned who I will hangout with during the weekends. Making friends is a very important thing to me. Since being here I have made some really good friends that I plan on seeing after this year. Some of them I plant room with next year. This doesn't even include the different faces I see everyday
Being in K.U.R.E. has helped me have experience in radio broadcasting. This isn't my exact field of work but It gives me experience outside of class. Apparently doing worlk outside of class is a good thing to have when either trying to find a job or an internship. I hope my later years in college will help me become a smarter person, and an expert in advertising.

What the Hixson Award means to me
The Christina Hixson opportunity award means everything to me. Not only was it the deciding factor on where I would be getting my college education at but it showed me how not many people have the opportunity to get a scholarship like this.
During the summer when I filled out this scholarship I was only doing It because it was around that time of the year to start filling out scholarships. During that time period I was informed by a close friend of mine and a current 2010 Hixson scholar from Clarke County that I should apply for this scholarship. Nick Bierbrodt helped me get this scholarship and he was the one that brought it top my attention that I needed to apply and take it seriously. Not only did Nick tell me but my principal told me as well that it was an opportunity to really separate yourself from the pack.
When I found out I got the Hixson Scholarship I was shocked. I would never imagine with my luck that I'd get a big scholarship like this. During the regular school year I was offered a $10,000 track scholarship from Grand view University to become a student athlete. Along with that came grants and other financial aid I received. After doing the math I figured out that i would still need to pay an extra $2,000 for tuition including all the loans I applied for and got. At Iowa State I only needed to pay around $300 after receiving the Hixson Scholarship. My love for track is above standards right now. I had the opportunity to run at a D III college and I turned it down. Why would I do that? Mainly because I don't see myself running track after college. I want to find a suitable well paying job that I can support my family with.
To some things up this scholarship means everything to me. I wouldn't be here If i didn't get this scholarship. I would still be doing something i love doing bu with that came financial issues. if Grand View gave me more money than I'd be running there as we speak. Never will I regret taking this scholarship. I now have the chance to run at a division I college. I am in the driver seat now. And I am the one that decides what road to take.

Social Media Week
For the social media project I decided to do the facebook page one. I mainly liked most advertising agencies, sport franchises, brands, actors, and people I consider to be inspiratinal to me in many aspects.
During the social media week I learned a little more information about the agencies I liked on facebook. I was able to Job shadow the Media Personnel from thw Iowa Cubs my junior year. Andrea Breen played a big part in the Cubs' promotion and marketability. After been for The Cubs fro awhile she went to Flynn Wright.
Flynn Wright is an advertising agency in Des Moines that is under construction. It too deals with social media around Des Moines and how people interact in many ways. This is one company I would like to be employed by. By engaging in this company I tracked down Andrea's past work and have seen her progress. She was involved in her colleges football teams media relations. She got a lot of training and experience in college.
Overall I gained a lot of experience from just reading her resume. She is encouraging me to do what she did and to get involved outside of class and be different from others.

Track 2011
Have you ever had the feeling that you are inevitable? That no one could beat you? Perhaps this feeling was from doing something you loved or were just good at. The feeling of being powerful or superior in one thing in life is extraordinary. Everyone was given a gift in life and It's your choice on what you do with that special talent. If you were blessed with that skill or talent then you must take advantage of that skill
Every time I step foot onto a track field I feel like I cant screw up. My confidence is threw the roof. When I step on the track I feel like I can always do my very best. I've done my best many times in my track career but none can compare on this day. Going to state track is a very big accomplishment in track & field and a milestone in my high school. Going to the Drake relays was another story. In my high school there has only been two athletes to go to the relays back to back. I can say that I am one of those few athletes that was blessed enough to make it.
The Drake relays is a world-wide competition where some of the worlds best track and field athletes compete against each other. It consists of Olympians, collegiate athletes, and the best high school track & field athletes in the state. The cut off time for the relays is very tight and only the best go. This year I was joined with one of the best female discuss throwers in the state. Sarah Pate was able to win the Drake relays this past year. While her goals were a little higher I was more concerned with getting there and finshing strong. My goal for this year was to not get last place. I ended up finishing 22nd out of 32 runners in the state in the 100 high hurdles. while I was running I felt as if I couldnt do anything but my best. personally I ran well and did my best. I didn't let anything get in my way and ran hard towards the finish.
As people with talented gifts in life and different abilities we must take advanatge of them. I have a skill of runnnig, and jumping. When im on the field I dont feel nervous or scared. I feel inevitable. When I do speeches in my classes I will try to picture myself on the track field and not on stage filled with hundreds of people starring at me. Giving speeches is one of my top phobias in life. Hopefully I can use my confiednce in track to not make me so nervous when im giving a speech.
